5 Tips for A Better Music Performance: A Mini Guide!

Are you an amateur artist who is going to give a debutant performance to a major crowd anytime soon?

You would be understandably nervous, and I get it. Unfortunately, when it comes to performing on a stage, raw talent doesn’t cut it on its own.

You need to learn how to be good at performing in front of people. So today, I am going to give you a few tips on how to be a fantastic performer on stage.

1. Warm up your throat

Practice, practice, practice! Practice is the key to ensuring that you give your best on your big day. And I have found that the best way of practicing is doing this in front of a mirror.

You might find it weird, but it is the only way you would be able to study your posture and your facial expressions.

The audience craves to see their famous singer/musician in real time; they want to feel the passion with which you’ve sung or played the piece.5 Tips for A Better Music Performance-111

2. Record it!

I know you might dread this tip. Don’t hesitate from recording because you are afraid it might not turn out so well.

It is good to spot the flaws and mistakes in a recording instead of making them on stage. Watching yourself on the tape would also give you a degree of confidence. I also recommend that you show the tape to someone else.

If you have a music teacher or a mentor, showing them the tape would help them assess your performance in a better way.

3. Take care of yourself especially your throat

You ought to know that constant practice can put your throat’s health in jeopardy.

I recommend that you keep yourself hydrated. Try to drink at least twelve to fifteen glasses of water. Also, have a good night’s sleep.

Sleeping is vital for your physical health. Also, try to avoid dairy products, alcohol, and cigarettes. You can also meditate and do some breathing practices. They can help you sing better.

4. Know your instruments

It is a good idea to determine the quality of the instruments you play.

A well-manufactured instrument from a well-known company is going to sound a lot better. It is better to invest in a good quality guitar than giving a bad performance.

And if you sing, I suggest that you buy yourself a good karaoke machine. Karaoke singing is an enjoyable experience, and it’s rewarding because you get to practice a lot which improves your singing.

I know it is hard to be an emerging artist. It is hard to throw yourself out there for people to give opinions, but you will have to work through these feelings.

You need to harness your subconscious because we all have an inbuilt mechanism of stopping ourselves from doing something embarrassing. Try to figure out the triggers that would prevent you from giving your best.
