Jameel Patrick Interview & his new album “Crepuscular: The Symphony”

Jameel-Patrick-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Thank you for having me. My name is Jameel Patrick, it’s my government name that I chose because it’s unique and I was lazy ha. Jameel is an Arabic name and Patrick is an Irish name, so the two don’t match and it’s very unique.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I always had a passion for music my entire life and began writing when I was 12 and learned how to start making songs when I was 16

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

Last year I was informed by someone within the mental health field that I could very well be undiagnosed on the autism spectrum. That led me to working on music that turned into albums. Crepuscular represents dawn before dark. In my music, it represents a time in life before the dark comes. When it’s dark, it can seem like its dark forever and some seasons it is dark longer but eventually the sun breaks through and the light comes.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

For one I have a very different voice. Music wise, the basis is hip hop but I love so many genres of music that I get bored with the basic hip hop song structures. There are small elements of hyper pop and rock on the record. The title “The Symphony” is inspired by my love of classical music. I do put my faith in my music but I don’t beat anyone over the head with it.

Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My two biggest influences are Boyz II Men and Linkin Park. They are extremely unique in what they do I would love to collaborate with Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

My proudest moments are actually not in the open. It’s when people tell me how much a song of mine has impacted them. That means a lot to me.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I work 2 jobs and go to school online. When I’m at home I have to choose days or specific times to work on music and school. I’m single with no kids, so it makes it a little easier ha-ha

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Be yourself and do not chase numbers. People are caught up on spotify numbers because we can see them but spotify streams can be bought. Be yourself and work hard on organically building your brand.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you. Also take care of your physical and mental health.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I will be releasing a Thanksgiving and Christmas single next month. Then next year the plan is to release a single at least every 6 weeks. Also I am looking to finish a book that I started this year.
