After releasing a plethora of singles, beat tapes and her recent debut EP, ‘Red Light’, Jaszy wanted to do something a little different than her typical jazzy R&B sound. Nostalgic tracks like Genuwine’s ‘Pony’ and modern tracks like Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Droptop in the Rain’, inspired the production while groups like Groove Theory inspired her familiar lyricism and flow.
“‘Who’s Gunna’ is not just about love but the internal battle of arrogance and self-awareness. There are two perspectives going on here – one where I know my worth and another where I’m trying to prove it. I feel like that is reality today with the reign of social media, instant gratification and overall disconnect from nature and self. It’s like we either put ourselves on unrealistic pedestals or attempt to numb the fact that we’re unsure of who we are. As the song progresses I get more and more emotionally driven implying that my partner doesn’t care and may never because ultimately who AM I?”
