Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hello! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be here on Xttrawave. My name is Chuck Starr and I am a singer-songwriter based in Columbus, OH. Over the last decade, I have been performing for music lovers of all generations around the world. If you have ever been to one of my shows, you know that I love to bring high energy, engage with my audience, and will likely have you dancing by the end of the show. There is no better feeling than helping people feel good and free through my music.

Artist/band name-any special meaning to it

Growing up with my birth name of Charles Boyd, I always dreamed of becoming a star. Whether it was playing sports or singing in front of large crowds. When I began my music career, I decided to use the stage name of C. Boyd. The name C. Boyd never felt like a good fit, so I knew I needed something better. A name that people would not forget, and would really set my brand apart. One day, as I was preparing for a show, those childhood dreams officially ended when I realized that…I am ”THE star”…I have always been “THE star”… I AM Chuck Starr.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

At an early age, my parents encouraged me to join our church choir, where I found my passion and love for music. During that time, I remember a very significant moment, when I was given the opportunity to sing a solo called Jesus is Real by John P Kee. As I was singing that song, I vividly remember the attention of the entire room organically transform, and this mutual feeling of intense euphoria taking over. From that point on, I fell in love with music and knew it was my God-given calling.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

My latest album, “Love Math,” is mainly composed with a glossy R&B-influenced pop vibe, that will take you through an array of emotions, diving deep into he romance and tribulations of relationships. Each hook, and each rhyme is deeply rooted in conveying some of the most intimate moments of life. Moments that you can groove and connect to with this album.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

My music has a contemporary R&B vibe with hints of reinvented soul. The songs are written based on real life experiences and give you a nostalgic feeling that people can easily relate to and connect with.

Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My biggest influences are Michael Jackson, and Usher. Growing up watching Michael Jackson perform, seeing his energy and passion with every move and note was breathtaking. Usher, to me was smooth and his music was written in a way that I could relate to. I would love to collaborate with Bruno Mars or Usher in the future.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

The best moment of my musical career was performing on cruise ships. This experience really molded me. I was able to find my sound, travel the world, learn many genres of music, and perform on a nightly basis. It definitely didn’t hurt that I was the best male singer of the fleet, so it was an amazing accomplishment.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

Balancing professional and personal life can be challenging, but it’s essential. For me to maintain a healthy balance, being organized and prioritizing a schedule is very important. I also set goals, establish boundaries, have to say “no,” to unplug from work, and make sure I am setting aside time to exercise and spend time with family and friends regularly.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

The best advice I could give an aspiring musician would be to start small, stay open minded, evolve, and rebrand constantly by watching the reactions of people to your craft. As good as your music may be, you need to keep people interested. If you don’t keep competing and refining your craft, re-selling and re-branding yourself, someone will take your place and you will become just another part of the white noise. That’s the hardest part about being a musician when no one cares about your music. Until one day…they do. But remember, if you don’t evolve, your fans can just as quickly forget what that magic was that drew them to you in the first place.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

The message I would like to share with my fans, would be, “Thank you and keep up the support, so that the numbers continue to go up.”

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I have shows lined up, and I’m currently working on adding some more songs to my “Love Math” album.
