When Dioneesus entered Metaverse Prison, little did he know it would forever change his life. Since early March, he has been stuck in Metaverse Prison in a musty 5×5 cell in Pittsburgh, PA and he has still somehow managed to release his latest single for an ever-expanding audience, “COVID-23”.
The single “COVID-23” is the first release off his latest work “2024 Side A”. 2024 is music storytelling at its finest. Dioneesus demonstrates expert precision in utilizing storytelling and mythology to integrate current events and pop culture into a compelling and brilliant tale.
His releases perfectly utilize multiple forms of media to play with listeners and leave them things to find and chase after, a “musical scavenger hunt” of sorts. That anticipation keeps them coming for more.
Dioneesus’s attitude and approach to the release is a glimpse of the future. Instead of looking at albums as the finish line, he uses it as part of a bigger, all-encompassing experience for fans. Perfectly crafted storytelling at its best.
The release hasn’t been all fluffy peaches and strawberry roses for Dioneesus. He is currently facing a lifetime ban from Facebook and Instagram (Meta) advertising, a punishment he equates to a “life sentence in Metaverse Prison” and censorship on artistic expression. MTV News labeled Dioneesus as a “menace to society. Pure filth poisoning the values of this country.” The artist has received immense backlash for his controversial style which, of course, has created even more buzz around him.
Fans are rallying around the artist. “Even today, when we listen to Dioneesus, we know of him as a friend of the artist and of free expression,” Colin Carter said. “He continues to move the needle as we question how our society continues to lock people up and limit their voice.”
