Hi, I’m Klarissa but everyone knows me as Klary.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I always loved to sing since I was only 3 years old, I started to love music when I was very young and used to just sit in front the tv watching music videos for hours, and since then it has been my biggest passion. But for many years it was more like an hobby for me and only in 2005 I realized that I wanted to be a full time singer, while I was on a trip in Indonesia and I saw the “Incomplete” music video by the Backstreet Boys on tv. I don’t know what happened, but in that moment I knew that I wanted to be a singer professionally, touring all around, recording my own music and also have my own music video aired on the tv.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
I wrote “Love Again” back in December and it was just a perfect description of what I was feeling at that time, I was dealing with some depression and the song is like a letter to all the people that somehow broke my heart.
“Love Again” tells the story of how many times in the past men made me feel not good enough and because of that I ended up being really insecure and not liking myself that much, questioning myself on everything (the way I look, the way I am, the things I do). After so many years I’m still dealing with these insecurities and I’m slowly getting over it, trying to re-build my confidence and love myself again.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
I love songs that tell a story, that are relatable to many people with different situations in life. See, “Love Again” to me is about men that broke my heart but for other people can be something else. I like to put all my emotions in what I do, trying to express what I feel so that other people could think that they’re not the only ones feeling that way.
My music is mainly Pop with some R&B influences.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
The Backstreet Boys were the very first artist that made me fall in love with music at a very young age. Then other artist influenced my music over the years such as Ed Sheeran, James Arthur, JoJo and Little Mix.
I’d love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran and James Arthur as they have a way to tell stories in their music that I really love.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
Even if I’ve been singing for many years and I’ve been part of several different bands and acoustic duos I have to say that my biggest achievement so far is the release of my first single “Love Again”, it took me so long to put it all together and also find the way to do everything living in a foreign city, struggling with money etc. but I’m really satisfied with the result.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
My family lives in another Country and the only really big obligation that I have at the moment is work but I can say that I’m managing to do everything quite easily, dividing myself between work and music can be a bit difficult sometimes but it’s only a matter of determination.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
I feel like that the most important thing is to be realistic and do things with a plan. I’ve waisted so many years thinking that things in life can come easily but unfortunately that’s not true.
Big dreams require big sacrifices, that’s all I can say.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I would like to thank the old ones for all of the support over the years and also welcome the new ones in my amazing music journey. There’s so much more to come!
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
More original music will come out in the next months, I’m working with different music producers, photographers and video makers so there are many more projects coming out in the future.
