Lil Tjay - 'Project Walls' lyrics - The meaning behind the song

The song “Project Walls” by Lil Tjay featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again reflects on the struggles and hardships the artists have faced while growing up in impoverished neighborhoods, specifically in the projects. The lyrics touch on themes of poverty, resilience, and the desire for a better life.

In the chorus, Lil Tjay mentions “roaches, project walls, dead broke,” which symbolize the challenging living conditions he has experienced. The reference to roaches and project walls represents the dilapidated and cramped environments often found in low-income housing projects. Being “dead broke” refers to his past financial struggles and lack of resources.

Lil Tjay expresses his determination to change his life and improve his circumstances, stating that he has tried various approaches to achieve success. Despite facing obstacles and people who wish him harm, potentially referring to those who want him dead or locked up in the federal prison system, he continues to strive for better opportunities.

In YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s verse, he shares a similar sentiment about overcoming adversity and refusing to let negativity bring him down. He mentions the federal walls, indicating his familiarity with the criminal justice system and possibly implying that he has encountered legal troubles in the past. However, he asserts that he no longer cries or lets fake people affect him deeply. He emphasizes his independence, success, and determination to accumulate wealth.
