Meet SKII, a Producer/DJ on a mission to bridge the gap between Hip Hop/Rap & EDM

    SKII-2

A scan of the music today will show that a trend is in full effect, as its proponent SKII might suggest. From Hip-Hop to EDM and beyond, the sound of EDM trap music is everywhere. A cursory look at the recent release by NGHTMRE & Gunna – CASH COW—proves that. Trap’s popularity arrived with the emergence of artists such as Flosstradamus, RL Grime, Baauer and many more. The EDM producers made trap a fixture on their records and on music charts, blending elements of trap music, an offshoot of Southern hip hop, with elements of EDM like build-ups, drops, and  breakdowns.

No conversation on EDM trap is complete without a nod to the producers who helped innovate and push the sound to mainstream success such as Marshmello, Diplo and DJ Snake who’ve worked with well-known rappers. Production styles vary, but following the successes of such artists, the world has started to take notice. Over the years, more artists have started exploring the sound. One notable artist is Producer/DJ SKII, whose produced a number of records that showcase the crossover potential of EDM and Hip-Hop. Despite his gritty melodic content, the blending of such genres make for strangely suited bedfellows on a mix, which turns out to be electric and exciting.

The best thing about such kind of music is that it consists of a little more than vocals, heavy bass, and a drum machine, each element being there because it has to be, rather than for unnecessary effect. Such restraint allows the listener to revel in the brilliance of the individual ingredients that SKII assembles. It can be a little more complex with undulating bass tones, shuffling drum patterns and rapidfire percussion accompanied by electronic synth melodies. Each sound creates its own sublime, if unlikely, hook; each is just the slightest bit epic, like the best EDM trap music should be.

And SKII does what any musical peer would do to be the best in the game, surrounding himself with talented artists who are doing it big. You can take notice on his Instagram account as he takes pics and forms relationships with renowned artists like Gunplay, Murda Beatz, Swae Lee, Martin Garrix, and the list goes on. Only thing left for SKII it to enhance his burgeoning reputation as a mastermind of the craft with more fire songs and creative collaborations that appreciate the craft within such genres.
