Music Interview: Eva Constance on her musical journey & new single “Hold Me”

    Eva Constance-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?

Hello and thanks for having me. My name is Eva Constance and I am a music artist. Eva Constance actually started out as Evangelina a few years back because it meant bearer of good news. Soon I realied people were having a heard time clinging to it so I shortened it to Eva which means living life, which I am. Constance means constant. So put together Evagenlina Constance meant constantly a bearer of good news, and Eva Constance means constanly living my life.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

When I was very young I actually didnt like singing. Its very ironic. My grandmother signed me up for the chior by age 5 and I did not like it at all. By age 11-13 I started writing my own music randomly and I came very natural to me. Around that time I also tried recording at the local church I went to in Connecticut where I was born and raised. It was the start of my journey as a musical artist. It was when I realised that this was going to be my path. Another little hint is that my birth name is Chanteuse, which actually means singer, in short terms. Once I found that out I knew that this would be my path.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

My music went through a lot of genres in order to find my sound. In my early years as a young adult I started out with straight pop, then to r&b, then to more of an evanescence vibe and by 2018 I was at home with the genre of r&b and pop together. I feel I have a vibe that almost anyone can get into and see. There was a dark time in my life where I landed in my dark emotions and I wanted to explore that side of music. That lead me to have very dark, sad, and very powerful emotions in the songs I wrote, including my single, “Hold Me” which I released in 2018 along with the music video. You can find them on youtube, Lum, and soundcloud.

After that song I had a whole chapter I wanted to unveil but as time passed I felt like it was just a phase and not who I was going to portray my image as an musical artist. So I took time away to revamp my image, music, and overall self to make sure that the new genre I wanted to take in music was going to be the right one.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I feel what makes my music unique is the chill vibe it brings to the table. My songs are layed back and have an r&b vibe and have lots of emotion tied to them. Think of the 90’s where Aaliyah and TLC were around.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

I do not play any instruments professionally or even intermediately but I do from time to time use my piano for pitch references, vocal techniques, music arrangement, etc. I love he piano because tit was the first imstrument I was drawn to in school. I attended an arts shigh school in Hartford, Connecticut and thats what got me into learning piano more.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My biggest influences are Aaliyah, Ariana Grande, Whiteny Housten, Mariah Carey, Minnie Ripterton, Adele, Ella Mai and Vanity 6.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I am very  proud of taking a step back and revamping my image and music because I now have a whole new area that I am excited to unveil to my fans but my proudest moment was my “Hold Me” project! It was my very first single and official VEVO music video. I was ecstatic!

How do you balance your music with other obligations –family, friends or work?

Balancing my music career with my everyday life has always been a hard thing for me. I’ve been in certain cituations were certain people kept me from doing what I loved due to personal issues and it made things almost impossible.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

The advice I would give an aspiring musician would be practice, practice, practice. Not everyone can become a professional singer and if you really want it, go for it with force. Take vocal lessons and piano lessons. Learn how to read music and/or write your own. Gain knowledge on harmonies and keys. Its definitely a lot but if you love to sing, you should love all of that because its whats needed to help and strengthen your career as a musician.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I would tell them to don’t let other people control your life and be dedicated to your craft.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I am very excited about my next project actually. The single is called, “Selfish” and when you hear it, you’ll definitely be reminded of the 90’s. It has an Aaliyah vibe to it as well but it has super relatible lyrics. I will also be working on the music video but nothing is final because I am still trying to find the right image that captures the lyrics and sound. I am planning to release the song sometime in the late fall.
