Music Interview: Ina Of KingQueen on her musical journey, creative tastes & new music

    Ina Of KingQueen-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?

Lead singer of rock band KingQueen and releasing solo music of all genres as Ina of KingQueen.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I can’t really say when I started get into music. I was always writing lyrics and melodies without understanding that I was actually writing songs. It was my therapy as a child and I never really realized it was going to be something I would one day stand on stage and perform to the world.

However it was when I saw a music video for “Thriller” by Michael Jackson that I realized what I wanted to do and that I wanted to entertain. And it was the whole 9 yards. The outfits, the smoke machines, the dancers, the music, the rock n’ roll.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

The EP I released under Ina Of KingQueen is actually filled with tracks I had removed from the stores a couple of years ago. People kept asking me for the songs and I had this weird idea that I couldn’t have that style of music out there if I was focusing on my rock band. Comes 2020 and I thought to myself:

“Heck you can do it all. You can do whatever you want.” So I decided to re-release them and I have a couple of other solo tracks coming out this year. I’m very excited about it.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I think what makes my music unique, and it’s something I’ve truly accepted recently, is that it’s filled with multi genres. My songs are created based on a mood and the sound and style reflects my mood at that moment. It’s nice and liberating to have discovered what my thing is by accepting the fact that it will never be one thing. It will always be based on time, place and how I feel at the moment. Just like life. It’s human.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

I play piano, a bit of drums and guitar. It’s my therapy. I get lost in it. It’s like something takes over me and it’s like I’m not here anymore. It feels like a high and I love that there’s always room for discovery and improvement. You will never be fully done and developed. It’s my everything.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I’ve always liked different styles of artists. Some of my favorites are Guns N’ Roses, Joan Jett, The Sounds, Madonna, Lady Gaga, James Brown, MJ, Imagine Dragons.. the list is long. Would LOOOVE to collaborate with either Joan Jett or Imagine Dragons.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I feel like each show is a different story. And they are all equally important and magical. I can’t pick my favorite really. But I guess I should mention the 2010 American Music Awards which was a insane experience. I hope I get to do it again one day.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

Music is my whole life. When I’m not making music for myself, I make it for others or teach. Music comes first.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

There’s no right or wrong! There’s no competition, only opinions and who cares about that? Do you, it’s ok to change direction! Dream, believe and make it happen.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

You have no idea how much each one of you inspire me! I feel so connected to you and I feel honored to have my music blasting through your headphones and that I’m able to be part of your life through art.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Was supposed to go on a summer tour with Out At The Fair this summer but that got cancelled because of the pandemic. I will release 3 singles with my band KingQueen and a music video for our track “Roller Coaster”. Will also release a soccer anthem for Helsingborg IF which will be in Swedish and released in early June.
