Music Interview: K Buzz on his musical journey, influences & new songs ‘Hennyting Goes’ & ‘Gbedu’

K Buzz - 4

K Buzz is a fast-rising and multi-talented Fusion artist based in the United Kingdom with fans across Africa, United Kingdom, and North America. His 3 most important personal values are FAMILY, LOVE and INTEGRITY.

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?

K Buzz is the name, was known as Kristi B back when I used to do Gospel music.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I started music in 2006/7 but started off doing gospel music and was known as Kristi B back then. I’ve always been into music from an early age from the church choir to listening to Nas, Tupac and Biggie through my old cassette player lol

After a while of being on Facebook they no longer allowed users to have a surname with one letter so I was forced to change it. I decided to change it to Buzz. But in 2011 I stopped the music game to focus on uni and looking after my son.

In December 2018 on my visit to Nigeria for my holiday I had a dream which is usual for me to dream about music, and woke up to record and write down the melodies and lyrics etc. Later to play it to my cousin who said it was dope that we must head to a studio that day by force lol

Long story short I recorded my 1st song in years, it was my first time in a studio in over five years and it was at that moment I realized that me fighting my passion the God given gift was taking more energy than needed so I decided to reroute than passion and energy into making music.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

Gbedu – A pure afrobeat’s production led by the Nigerian Gbedu drum. It was inspired by the original King of Afrobeat Fela Kuti. After listening to. The sounds of Fela I wanted to bring a sound indigenous to Afrobeat which was deeply rooted in my culture.

Hennyting Goes – Produced by BluBlood, the foundations for ‘HennyTing Goes’ were laid through K Buzz’s interest in the viral Shaku and Zanku dances that have popped up in the past few years. The finished product aims to breed positivity, encouraging listeners to ‘dance as you like, do as you like, live your life to the fullest’. K Buzz’s precise, energetic delivery and Zlatan’s signature animated flow blend with great chemistry over a hard-hitting, lively instrumental, a perfect vibe for the dancefloor.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

My purpose as K Buzz is to be the best UK’s Fusion artist as i can both sing and rap, i want to bring a different element of creativity into all my musical pieces to captivate my listeners into my various flows and melodies.

I believe that what make my music unique is my choice of sounds. I like to fusion rnb, hip-hop and pop  into afro topping it off with my unique flow and ascent, making my music and sound unique to the ear. I would describe my music as an afro-fusion which is why I classify myself as a fusion artist. I feel more related to the following genres Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, RnB, Afro-Swing & Dancehall.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

No instruments other than my vocals though I tried the piano at my early years but never followed it up but im very good at knowing my keys etc.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My biggest Musical influences are Micheal Jackson, 2pac, Biggie and Nas. But looking at today, artists I would like to collaborate with are Tems, GoodGirl LA, Davido, Wizkid, Dave, Chipmunk, Wretch 32, Burna just to name a few lol

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I would say the best moment for me so far has been when a fan had messaged me to tell me how my song had got them through a rough time a moment they couldn’t see themselves out of. For me this is what I live for and made me feel happy deep inside that my music had travelled far to touch lives. There is no better testament than this.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

As music is a part of me I find myself doing music all day. In everything I do I find myself doing melodies, writing lyrics in my free time. Most evening and free weekends I get I dedicate to writing new songs and working closely with my producers to make new chemistry and magic.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

I would say follow your heart your desire and channel your energy and emotions into your music only then will you make pure music true and indigenous to only you. This will then bring you to your true sounds and the true you as an artist. In other words im saying don’t always follow trends and don’t copy other artists, be unique and be a rare Gem in this industry that’s the only way to stand out. Let’s look at Burna Boy for example.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Stay connected I’ve has some Buzzing songs coming this 2020 that will surely blow you away, I’ve been working relentlessly to produce the best of me for my fans. Stay tuned.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or tours?

Soon to release my EP in the next few months, expect some collaborations from some artists I respect in the music industry and more shows and tours around the Globe. Currently ive only released 2 songs but my catalogue is peaking 20 songs, I have much to offer and im always working hard to create new music. Ill also be working on a lot of visuals for my songs from music videos to animated music videos.
