Music Interview: Mowille delves on his creative tastes, musical influences & new EP “ODUSTY”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Adedamola Durodola, or better known as Mowille, is an emerging artist, singer, and songwriter originating from Ibadan City, Nigeria. Now based in London, England.

Mowille is set to make waves in the scene with his unparalleled sound and style. Inspired by his life experiences, Mowille radiates an energy-filled aura through his music. Moreover, he seeks to push the envelope and bridge various elements from different genres such as Afrobeats, hip-hop, and r&b to make a well-rounded, dynamic style that is truly his own.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Motivation into music started from choir days in church. I began with poems then into writing lyrics on instruments.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

ODUSTY ep is a five track project: hip-hop genre with some afrobeat fusion. ODUSTY means Omo Durodola Son of the Year

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

My style of music is unique because of my ability to switch up flows many times on a song using English and Yoruba (mother tongue). My genre cover is vast such as HipHop, Rap, RnB, Afrobeats and Pop.

 

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Influences are legendary musicians in Nigeria such as late Dagrin, King Sunny Ade, Sir Ebenezer Obey etc.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Most proud achievement was racking over 100k Spotify streams on ODUSTY.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I juggle music, family commitments and 9-5 work by ensuring no clashes each other constantly reshuffling the priorities around flexibly.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Aspiring musicians should like me keep working better and be open to experiment without fear of failure.

Thank you so much my fans as with you along the line, the dream is coming truer.
