Music Review: Fans of Jimmy Century – “eSensuals”

“eSensuals” is a 12-song album from Fans of Jimmy Century, a band originally from Oakland CA and based in Las Vegas. They draw inspiration from different styles of music mixing everything form indiewave, modwave, neo noir duo with trip hop influences.

Their music requires one to be a free soul, not only is it brilliant but is highly suggestive of a nature that is keen on serving up their audience with awesome thrills. Led by vocalist/ songwriter/ voice actor Alicia Perrone, she expresses herself profoundly without wasting her efforts in releasing songs that are strong and edgy. “All My Friends Are Ice Queens” and “Liquid Chill” are quite provoking with lyrics that take us on a musical journey filled with mystery and excitement.

“Chery Drops” and “Noirstar (Memories of His City)”  surpass all kinds of mental distractions to float through your ears and into your mind with ease. They are very frivolous and addictive especially to the young spirited minds that have a wild imagination to explore the world and what it offers.

Bassist/ songwriter/ producer/ video director Victor James is much more impressive on songs such as “Tigra Girl” and “The Last Summer of Mad Whips”. The production is solid, striking hard and not holding anything back to deliver a masterpiece perfection. Victor James keeps things cohesive, delivering a mood that speaks to the heart, mesmerizing and soaking the listener with expressive sounds that are layered with intent.

When you listen to “eSensuals” it becomes less about fitting into a box and more about creating wild imaginations through talent in order to captivate listeners, a good step in the right direction for the duo. The album is spaced out with heightened contrasts of synth instruments embracing sounds that feel expansive and ethereal.
