You can hardly be surprised with how JB makes this project a success, owed primarily to his pronounced understanding of why the average rap song does well and how exactly to replicate those same effects with greater creativity.
On the opening track “Til’ the Grave”, JB feels present to what is unfolding and requires him to perceive life in the greater scheme of things. He doesn’t deal with past events or past mistakes but he keeps things moving. The energy and willpower he speaks of forms the burst of inspiration needed to move forward.
“Caught in the System” is a more darker and moodier track, and is compounded by an inner voice that’s never satisfied until it gets what it wants. JB raps like a certified rapper whose been steadily rising and making calculated strides to advance his status in the game, and on a song like “Mission” he goes much more aggressive, with momentum that carries with it an expansive energy capable of overcoming struggle and misfortune.
The artist has an uncanny feel for settling his mellowed croons into the thick of any beat. On “No Relaxing” you get to experience an overwhelming sense you’ll reach the skies from where you are now, as the song features some trippy synths and a smooth bassline, allowing you to put your mind at ease. All the tension within gets to melt away as you immerse yourself in the song’s laid-back harmonies.
JB is focused on continuously growing as a person and as an artist, and developing new skills that he can use to serve up great music. There’s a dynamic quality to his performances, in tune and intensity, even as his flows twist and turn. JB has the ability to apply his signature inflection to just about any rhythm he conjures up that makes his latest EP Progression, nearly hypnotizing.
