“Pawn And Prophecy” is the latest release from metal band Mike LePond’s Silent Assassins. The hardcore band upstart with a crashing and aggressive style staking a claim in a genre of die-hards. They pummel and smash their way into your eardrums with pure upheaval making them a much favorite.
“Masters of the Hall” immediately charges ahead, with bare-knuckle swagger ripping straight off and structured in a way so as to maximize the impact of the album. The band keep it moving with varying song lengths and sonic deviations to starve off listener fatigue.
With songs such as “Black Legend” and “I Am the Bull”, they morph and confront with caveman-like stomp. Freewheeling guitar solos and headbang-ready riffs indulge and drag the listener into a spiritual connection.
Hyper-distorted with enough panic is tracks such as “Avengers of Eden”, loaded with the kind of insane energy that makes you want to hit the streets running. The band has interesting stylistic choices. Their raw speed, gravelly throats, swaggering attitude, and consistency makes you pretty much already know what “Pawn and Prophecy” album will sound like.
Riffing with songs such as “Hordes of Fire” and “Antichrist” at thrash tempos the band makes anthemic material making them sound their most extreme without squelching the dynamics.
Sticking with their thrilling heavy-metal odyssey, they go long on the self-titled track “Pawns and Prophecy”. It’s quite lengthy but achieves the bands overall sound with subtle changes here and there. If you’ve come to expect the best of metal then Mike LePond’s Silent Assassins would not disappoint.
