Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

My name is Slxm. I am an afrobeat musician/artiste from Nigeria. The name really started out from an acronym coined from the words Sex, Love & Money. So that’s how you get Slxm but its pronounced Slim.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

From a young age I already had a big interest in music. That’s why I started out as a DJ before I switched to producing and making music full time. With time I just figured my love for music was more than my love for anything else in the world.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

With Knackademus I focus more on showcasing the mindset and switch of the lifestyle of a hardworking guy during the week to the life of the party during the weekend. Cause we all know it’s up every weekend and everyone is almost always looking for a way to cool their stress.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

I would say my music has a certain aspect of highlife to it but polished up with an afro fusion hint and afro swing chords. I freestyle most of my songs so I would say it’s always like a race starting and ending with a climax. I also draw a lot of my musically inspiration from people like Fela Kuti, A lot of old Wizkid songs, Tekno and a few more afrobeat artists. I feel like the music I make is a certain mix of these influences.

Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Tekno, Wizkid, Fela, Olamide, Phyno and Davido. I would love to love to work with Olamide and Phyno the most. They were my best music duo on songs when growing up. Davido to me would be the person I feel I would have the best time making music with.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I would say my first live performance was a great moment but going to Toronto and performing during an event called Detty December was a crazy one. It was a good feeling being in a different city and seeing that type of good reaction the music. Makes you happy you’ve been putting in all that work.Slxm-5

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I try my best to always keep focus and with work, school and everything I feel like I’ve just had great people around me that help me keep everything on track and in check while I go through the motions. Won’t know where I would be without my team.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Just keep working on your craft I guess there’s always going to be a lot of struggles missteps and all but it’s all part of the process. Just keep loving what you do and do your best to always put your best effort into it.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Love the support on the new release won’t know where I would be without the support from fans and everyone that keeps streaming and playing my music. All love from Slxm

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Right now, I am working on my self-titled E.P S.L.X.M. Dropping a couple singles from there soon. The visualizer for Knackademus will be coming in March. Also going to be featured on my music groups first project coming in July. Walkley Boyz – WBZ
