Album Review: Erik Cain – Ready Or Not

Erik Cain - Ready Or Not-2

Erik Cain is less favorable with dipping in and out of melodic phrases but his hard lyrics turn any solemn situation into high energy enthusiasm. He seems to take his music seriously. It’s actively contemplative in sound if not in content, and is coupled with enhanced fidelity, giving his vocals more edge in tracing his runs with more precision. His new album Ready or Not, is fulfilling by its very nature and its potential hinges on Erik Cain taking pride with his ability to bring a touch of the extraordinary to ordinary circumstances.

Hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, Erik Cain steps up to the plate with his album, building up a hybrid skill of rapping and singing. “Heart Gold” shows moments of heart-wrenching struggle, with lyrics that become a collection of autobiographical instincts that feature throughout the album. Influenced by conscious rappers such as J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance the Rapper, Erik Cain goes from dark and aggressive on songs such as “Impact” into moments of strong heartfelt emotions on songs like “Can’t FWM”.

There is few bright skies and beach weather when you listen to the album. The rapper never catches his breath as he delivers hard-hitting rhymes with dark humor and borderline-troll personality on songs like “On One” and “Up, Up, and Away”. It’s quite the effort for Erik Cain, doing good in bridging the melodic gap by relentlessly being productive and innovative with his music and coming up with something that’s exciting and relatable to the minds of listeners.

Erik Cain is more than a competent rapper by delivering pleasurable eclecticism rhymes that are rough, and at times carry an enthusiastic energy. But he is also at his strongest when displaying his softer side, often smooth on the verses and mellow on the hooks. Songs like “Dance With Me”, and “Can’t Leave You Alone”, and “LUV” offer a sizeable amount of cordial tunes that would impress any listener who stumbles upon them. All of these records command attention, becoming a collection of smashing R&B beats that blend well with irresistible vocals.

The versatile artist is full of surprises as he firmly establishes himself as one of the most avant-garde in R&B, but he is also the best among his peers when it comes to delivering that soulful edge with songs like “Background”, “Get My Head Right”, “Moving Forward”, and “Niggas Gon’ Ride”. Erik Cain creates music with an abiding confidence in himself and an intense devotion to the craft. The artist can huddle to the finish line at his own pace, fall down and get back up without hesitation, and being unfazed by the situation, will still deliver a thrilling performance and win big.
