Music Interview: Arkarin on his music journey, being inspired by Armin Van Buuren and his new single ‘Gurugu’

Arkarin - Gurugu-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?

My name is Arkarin and the name comes from the union of my first and last names (Arkaitz Garin). I am from Pamplona (Spain).

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Well, since I was little, I liked electronics. But the moment I realized it was my path was at my first festival, in Amsterdam. When I returned home, I was clear that I wanted to learn to play music.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

Today to be a DJ and have greater visibility you have to produce your own music and the unexpected death of my uncle encouraged me to produce my first track, it is a way to convey what I feel, I dedicate the song to my uncle.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I like to have a good melody that has feeling, I get excited, I think that’s what music is about, to get excited.

I listen to all kinds of music and I am open to different styles, I don’t like to be typecast in a particular style although if I had to say one I would say the progressive house/bigroom.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

I don’t play any instrument, but I would have liked to know how to play some instrument, specifically, the trumpet.

How is your creative process when recording music? And what makes a good recording session?

The first thing I think about is what I want to convey emotionally. Then it’s the instrumentation and the lead melody; I think this is the most important thing for a song to connect. As I see it, the melody is especially important to connect with an audience that don’t have musical training.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I am a fan of Armin Van Buuren – an artist who impacted on me as a teenager; his song ‘In and Out of Love’ especially. I really like KSHMR as a producer.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I just landed in the music world, so let’s just say that I just started my musical career. My first track is what I’m proud of, I don’t have any more things to be proud of at the moment hahahaha!

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I work a lot and I have very little free time, sports and music take the little free time I have. Especially on Sundays, I try to dedicate the day to music.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Work and perseverance, and to pursue your dream no matter what others say.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I hope not to let you down and I want to get you as excited as I am with music.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or tours?

Try to get a next song out there and hopefully start to play some shows in clubs – I’d love to do that.
