Music Interview: I AM SHE on her creative tastes, musical influences & new single “Dusk Til’ Dawn”

I AM SHE-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hi, thanks for having me. I’m a music artist from London, UK, I go by I AM SHE. The name came about when I was chilling with my partner, I still hadn’t decided fully what my artist name was going to be, he asked what I was going to call myself, so I randomly had a thought and said to him ‘I Am She’,  he loved it and said I should run with it. I searched the name on Google to see if there was already any I Am She’s and it had been used multiple times for a variety of things but I just thought, I’m keeping it and I’ll just make it my own.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Well I’ve been doing music since I was a little girl, I have been playing the piano since and singing I was 8 and beyond that, I just never officially released my own material until later on in my life. I’ve always wanted to do music, I’ve always been into the performing arts that’s, singing, dancing, acting even modelling and I believe I can incorporate that all into the plans I have going forward.  I was briefly signed to a label where I featured on a song with another artist on the same label which was released in 2018 but I decided to become an independent artist and it’s working out well for me so far.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

“Dusk Til’ Dawn” is mainly about being so clouded and taken away by habits or vices that you miss the joys and let the beauties of life pass you by.  I find this is totally relatable to the everyday person and can be applied to any situation. Most people have been connected to struggle in some form at some point in their life so this song is for them.

What makes your music unique?

My music is unique because of my overall voice and sound I don’t distinguishably sound like anyone else, I’m really just making music that feels good in the moment,  I never have a fixed idea in mind when it comes to what genre I’m going to go for, it’s really a go with the feel kind of thing. Most of the time my songs become a fusion of genres hence why I’d call myself a fusion artist because although I will make some solid one genre songs, there’s also a lot of infusion for example R&B and Trap, EDM & R&B.

And how would you describe it?

I’m going to describe it as fusion music.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My biggest musical influences would be Michael Jackson, Louisa Marks, Whitney Houston, and Aaliyah just to name a few.

I AM SHE-3

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I’ve sung at the Royal Albert Hall, that would be the thing I’m most proud of.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

At times it can be difficult but I get it done because if you really want to do something, you’ll find time for it.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

To work hard,  never give up, stay strong, resilient and consistent. Also it’s good to rest enough and not overwork yourself.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Always be yourself.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

My next upcoming single is an R&B track called ‘Repeat’ it drops September 4th on all streaming platforms, it’s smooth slow vibe so if you need a tune to relax, ‘Repeat’ is the one!
