Letkojofly-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Thanks for having me! I’m Letkojofly, a rapper/artist from East London. My name (kojo) is my first and last names combined and the let fly part is from a few things I’ve heard over the years.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Music has been an outlet for me for many years. Almost all of my memories have a soundtrack and eventually I just decided to make my own.

Tell us about Cheque Freestyle And what’s the story behind it?

The song cheque freestyle is about being broke, but not broken. It was my way of saying even without money in my pocket there are still things about me that nobody else could replicate.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

That’s a tough question. I would like to think my music varies genre pretty regularly even within the realm of hip hop. I don’t enjoy being confined by genre. My expression comes in many forms and sometimes rapping isn’t the best way to let it all out.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Too many to list probably. Nirvana are a continuous muse for me and probably always will be. I would have to mention Tyler the creator just for his give no f***’s attitude and thundercat for just how much I connect to his music. Westside Gunn, playboi carti, Slipknot and Eyedress are the main artists in rotation at the moment for me though. As for collaborators I’d really like to make music with my friends again.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

My proudest moment as a creator was probably in Germany with JoeJas Deijuvhs & Mr Pigeons. I’ve performed in larger venues, to bigger crowds, but that was particularly special as to the people we were unknown entities but the vibe was instantaneous. We did manage to get arrested on the trip but that’s another story.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

Music is something I see as ongoing regardless of what Im doing in the present moment. Not to sound pretentious but I am music, in the sense that I’ve made it before and I’ll make it again. Whether I’m waiting for the train or taking a s**t it’s a tab that’s always open in my mind.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

My advice would be to stay strong through the journey, wherever it takes you. Many people will latch onto you and some will be genuine friends, but for the most part it’s more about what people see you being able to do for them, so trust wisely wherever possible.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Have more care for humanity. Everyone has been going through an intense forced disassociation from loved ones and unless we make more time for each other and our problems as well as celebrations, the world will only feel a more lonely and distant place.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

New singles coming soon, dates TBA as I want to shoot videos and so on. I’m planning to release a couple solo projects this year, hopefully more than one, but one at the very least.
