Music Review: Beav – Politically Incorrect

Beav - Politically Incorrect Cover Art

Beav raps on lyrics that have the blistering anxiety and animosity of a youth snake-bitten by violence, and his delivery is measured and ever-present beyond his years. Hailing from Charleston, MO the rapper presents Politically Incorrect, an album that shows moments of heart-wrenching loss and struggle, that become a collection of autobiographical instincts embedded into the project.

Politically Incorrect is thrilling in the way precocious gangster rappers tend to be thrilling: everything is intoxicating and acrobatic, the menace contained herein feels free of consequence. The album is much a perspective on hood politics. Drugs, fast cash, getting into it with the enemies and all the stuff that comes with it.

Beav appears to realize he doesn’t need to shape his sound to appease out-of-touch listeners for his music to weave through the air waves. The 12-track album makes the rapper true to himself, unleashing his complete personality to represent his surroundings through his love for music. Beav’s tone is present in a variety of ways. He goes from dark and aggressive on songs such as “Nomo” into moments of strong heartfelt emotions on songs like “My Bonnie”.

There is little bright skies and beach weather when you listen to the album. The rapper never catches his breath as he delivers hard-hitting rhymes with dark humor and borderline-troll personality. Songs like “Jackboys”, “Gun”, and “Bang” turns the artist into one of the genre’s most captivating characters, expressing his provocative side without holding back.

Beav is more than a competent rapper by delivering pleasurable eclecticism rhymes that are rough, and at times carry an enthusiastic energy. It’s true Beav is at his strongest when displaying his dark side, often surgical on the verses and coming alive on the hooks. Politically Incorrect is the sound of a thousand lives lived from the perspective of a young man eager to take his story into his own hands.
