Music Review: Capo 2G – PULLUP ft Kirko Bangz

Music Review Capo 2G - PULLUP ft Kirko Bangz

Capo 2G manages to juggle his normal melting pot of orchestral and soothing classical horn instruments with a Jamaican vibe steel-drumming its way into the mixture. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria and based in Las Vegas, Nevada it makes sense for the artist to take these cultural cues and blend them into his fluidly-evolving raps.

The song “PULLUP” does nothing less than be a thrill; something ephemeral, quick paced, gone before you know it, indicative of how fun and exploratory it sounds. His vocal style itself is a natural descendant of both dancehall and afrobeat, mashing up into a throbbing tropical thumper.

Capo 2G invites rapper Kirko Bangz to show off his musical qualities and whose well known for his slow, relaxed rhythm style. Kirko Bangz comes in with his own confidence, eclectic and smooth in doing his best to actually blend in with the Afro-Jamaican flavour.

“PULLUP” is a melodic, introspective, low-key song, often set to stripped back, downbeat rhythms. It sets off to a gentle, mid-tempo pace, with a simple chord sequence repeating all the way through.

The singer-songwriter understands his diverse lane, defining his sound with an instrumental that helps in setting him apart from rivals. “PULLUP” is a sure-fire track as Capo 2G drifts into the chorus while his echo-chirp ad libs melt into the fabric of the rhythm.

Capo 2G seems ready for his fans as he sets on a first solo tour in Trinidad, Colorado on February 21st. Many will be anticipating a full-fledged multiculturalism display as he delivers his fusion jams with conviction.
