Music Review: RAVO – SpeedRacer ft. Dizzy Wright & Nikko Dator

RAVO-2

RAVO (Eric Bravo) presents himself not only as a versatile musician who could impress his audience on almost any trending sound, but also as someone who could add a new dimension to that sound. Eric Bravo is known for his photography, writing, and animation work on projects such as, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rugrats, Penguins of Madagascar, and his own cartoon with Nickelodeon titled, “The Outsiders”. And with music, the artist never sounds like he’s had less to deliver.

His new single “SpeedRacer” featuring XXL Freshman Class Alumni Dizzy Wright alongside Nikko Dator, revolves around lyrics that showcase the creative relationship between clever wordplay, witty rhymes and rapping abilities. Through the artists startling nonchalance, they rhyme about different scenarios and experiences that are bound to get the audience rocking back and forth with their headphones. As a listener, your choices are to write them off as trolls or that they are just in the mood of making enjoyable raps with a syrupy flow while trying not to dwell on the specifics.

“SpeedRacer” pretty much focuses on flow and rhythmic melodies rather than intellectual or conscious writing as the artists carve and shape the lyrics to the fit the instrumental. Most of what happens here could be considered hype lyrics, which is good in keeping the listener entertained and engaged instead of itching to press skip. Nikko Dator sounds comfortable and maintains a flow that keeps the sound fresh while he pushes toward new ground. Dizzy Wright does his usual by developing a natural connection with the beat allowing him to lock in and spit hard-hitting lyrics with a self-confident nature. All this is done over a hard-hitting beat with fast-paced drums and an 808 bassline accented by ribbons of melodic synths that calmly warp over the beat.

On the track, Eric Bravo makes do with fiery vibes and a trap sound that’s a mix of brazenly modern and self-consciously retro. It all adds up to a record that highlights passion and determination more clearly than most of the records we’ve heard this year, and he doesn’t mind adding a distinct ripple to this new surge of eager inventiveness. Under the beaming light, he comes off as a motivated young musician ready to take on the music scene. Eric Bravo purposefully strives for opportunities and describes his desire to make it big with grim clarity, deciding to take the DJ Khaled route and executive produce most of his songs. He can catch you off guard with his ambitions, as he makes being a musician sound like a breeze. But he remains free-flowing, wise, entertaining, and unstoppable. Nothing here sounds half-baked, and “SpeedRacer ” provides another solid course that allows RAVO (Eric Bravo) to chart to the top.
