Before the fame, Future had released a few mixtapes. Thereafter, he started gaining popularity after his songs were played by DJ Esco at Magic City, a strip club in Atlanta. His debut LP Pluto followed which included remixes of “Tony Montana” featuring Drake and “Magic” featuring T.I.. The the album peaked at No. 2 on Billboard 200. Later on, he officially became the first ever artist to knock out his own album (FUTURE) from the number 1 spot to replace it with yet another album of his (HNDRXX). With this, Future became the only musician in the Billboard’s history to ever debut two back-to-back No. 1 albums. 2. J. Cole
J. Cole may be first known as Jay-Z’s protege but he has emerged from the sideline to become a Billboard chart topper. When Cole finished his first mixtape, he went after the biggest in the business, camping outside Jay-Z’s studio for two hours for a chance to connect with the mogul. Intent on further pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he went on to release two additional mixtapes The Warm Up in 2009 and Friday Night Lights in 2010, after signing to Jay Z’s Roc Nation imprint in 2009. Cole then released his debut studio album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, in 2011. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. His next album, Born Sinner (2013), also topped the Billboard 200. The rapper also won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song, for his collaboration on 21 Savage’s song “a lot”.

3. Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg is a veteran in the game and the very definition of a real OG, synonymous not only with West Coast hip-hop. During his youth that was after graduating from high school, Snoop Dogg was frequently in trouble with drugs and law, in and out of jail for nearly three years. Released from jail he embarked on making homemade rap tapes with his friend Warren G, who was a stepbrother of Dr. Dre of N.W.A. After all, Dr. Dre asked him for collaborations, first on the theme song of the film “Deep Cover,” and then on Dr. Dre’s debut solo album “The Chronic.” Since then his career that has spanned gangsta rap to R&B.

4. Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne is a rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana and is the found of the record label Young Money Entertainment. In 1997, Lil Wayne joined the group Hot Boys, which also included rappers Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. Hot Boys debuted with Get It How U Live! that year. However, Lil Wayne gained most of his success when he released his Platinum debut album Tha Block Is Hot, selling over one million copies in the U.S. Wayne gained more prominence with his sixth album Tha Carter III (2008), which became his most successful album to date, with first-week sales of over one million copies in the United States. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and includes the hit singles “Lollipop”, “A Milli” and “Got Money”.

5. Wiz Khalifa
Wiz Khalifa is a popular rapper from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to the Black and Yellow Songfacts, his stage name is derived from khalifa, an Arabic word meaning “successor”, and wisdom. His nickname growing up was “Wizard” which was shortened to Wiz when Khalifa was fifteen. His first debut album, entitled Show and Prove, which was released on 5th September, 2006, received rave reviews. The next mixtapes released by Wiz Khalifa were Star Power in 2008 and Flight School in 2009 – the same year as his second studio album. Deal of No Deal was released on 24th November 2009, reaching the tenth position on Billboard’s Top Rap albums. The next mixtape from Khalifa was Kush and Orange Juice, released in April 2010. Wiz Khalifa gained more prominence with the release of his album Rolling Papers. It featured the song “Black and Yellow”, a tribute to his hometown of Pittsburgh, which debuted at number 100 and eventually peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he released the song “See You Again” (featuring Charlie Puth) for the soundtrack of the film Furious 7 and the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks.

6. Young Thug
Young Thug began his independent musical career in the year 2011 with one of his singles titled “I Came from Nothing”. He then got signed under Gucci Mane‘s 1017 Records label in the year 2013. That same year, he rose to popularity following the release of his first major hit, “Stoner.” He continued this streak in 2014 after being featured on multiple high-profile singles, including T.I.’s “About The Money” and Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle.” Later on, he released his debut studio album So Much Fun, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 and marked his first chart-topping album. 7. T-Pain
T-Pain is a rapper from Tallahassee, Florida and is known for popularizing the Auto-Tune effect. Throughout his career as a singer, T-Pain has extensively used the pitch correction effect on most of his songs. Since the release of his debut album, T-Pain has produced numerous hits of his own and for other rappers and R&B singers. In 2008, he won a Grammy with rapper Kanye West for the single “Good Life”. 8. 2 Chainz
2 Chainz began his career using the stage name Tity Boi as a member of the duo Playaz Circle alongside Dolla Boy, who was signed to Ludacris’ Disturbing tha Peace label and known for their debut single “Duffle Bag Boy”. He released his debut studio album Based on a T.R.U. Story to mixed reviews, but the album was later certified Gold in sales by the RIAA. The album spawned three successful singles: “No Lie”, “Birthday Song”, and “I’m Different”, all of which charted in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 and were certified Gold or higher by the RIAA. His second studio album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time was supported by the hit single “Feds Watching” (featuring Pharrell Williams).

9. Chief Keef
Chief Keef is known as one of the central pioneers and propagators of the prominent Chicago drill style. In 2012, his popular local single “I Don’t Like” was remixed by American rapper Kanye West and reached the Billboard Rap Top 20, further raising the rapper’s profile. A bidding war between major labels resulted in Keef signing a multi-million dollar deal with Interscope. His debut album Finally Rich was released in December 2012, and featured the singles “I Don’t Like” and “Love Sosa”, which would popularize the Chicago rap subgenre drill. However, his legal troubles have constantly harmed his career.

10. Lil Jon
Lil Jon was the frontman of the group Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, which he formed in 1997 and released several albums with until 2004. Lil Jon has also produced many hit urban singles and has made the terms “OK!”, “What?!”, and “Yeah!” a familiar calling among his friends and followers both inside and outside of the hip-hop genre. He’s provided guest verses in many hip-hop and R&B tracks by a wide variety of artists as well. But the rapper gained more prominence as the King of the early-2000s Atlanta crunk movement, and best-known for the raucous 2003 hit “Get Low.”

11. Wale
Wale rose to prominence when his song “Dig Dug (Shake It)” became popular in his hometown. “Dig Dug (Shake It)” became the most requested song by a local artist in D.C. radio history. It was later included in his first mixtape, “Paint a Picture”. The rapper’s second full-length and first proper release for MMG, Ambition, landed in November 2011 and hit number two on the Billboard 200. Its success was driven by the mellow slow jam “Lotus Flower Bomb.” One of the year’s biggest radio hits, the Miguel collaboration topped Billboard’s R&B/hip-hop chart, cracked the Top 40 of the Hot 100, and was later nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rap Song. His also signed with Florida rapper Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, where members of the label released a compilation album, Self Made Vol. 1.

12. Ace Hood
Ace Hood is best known for his hit singles “Hustle Hard” and “Bugatti,” the latter of which peaked at #39 on the Hot 100 chart. His first album, Gutta, was released in 2008 and include the hit singles “Cash Flow” featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross, and “Ride” featuring Trey Songz. Hood also released mixtapes called Ace Won’t Fold and All Bets On Ace. He has released four studio albums with his most successful being his last two albums, Blood, Sweat & Tears (2011) and Trials & Tribulations (2013).
