Alonzo Music Interview

Alonzo Music Interview-2

We had the sheer privilege of catching up with LA artist, Alonzo. Having just returned from the 4U Tour…a celebration of PRINCE music accompanied by a Symphony, Alonzo is the only artist to have been personally chosen by the Prince Estate to represent the music of the legendary PRINCE.

We asked him about the tour and about his new moves with his own original music…

1. Hi Alonzo, you are a man of many talents. What was the first performance of your life when you knew this was going to be your career?

My first performance was at Eisenhower Middle School in Rockford, IL. I was 13 years old in the 7thgrade. I performed a dance impersonation of Michael Jackson in our Choir Concert. I was so scared but my Choir teacher (Mrs. E.T) encouraged me to do it.

There’s a video of it somewhere on YouTube (I looked a mess! Haha). This performance was life changing because I had gone through so much depression and rejection at this age. I wasn’t a happy kid at all but coming down those stairs hearing people scream for me was the first time in my life where I felt like I belonged.

Surprise! Here’s the video:

2. Where are you from and where do you currently live?

I was born in Chicago, IL. Raised in Rockford, IL so I call Rockford my hometown. I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA.

3. Where have been your favorite stages to perform?

I’ve seen stages all over the world and I can honestly say as of this interview my favorite stage is Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. That place is truly magical.

4. We hear that you are working on a new video soon for your debut release. Can you share a few details with our readers?

Yes! Working hard and so excited to shoot my debut music video. This song and the video will be everything that is me! Rock, Soul, Pop, Fashion, Dance, Style & More! All of my magic, all of my talents, all of my gifts. Ahhh I can’t wait for everyone to see!

5. Your live performance is riveting. How do you prepare to captivate your audience?

It’s so funny how this works for me because I am an artist that thrives on letting the magic take over in the moment. I think in order to have authentic powerful moments on stage it’s important not to over rehearse but still be PREPARED.

I try to find a balance because I don’t believe in being unprepared either. I just try to know my music and have an idea of what I want to convey. I also like to make sure I’m centered by meditating and keeping my energy clear. This allows me to truly sing from my heart and share my energy. The rest is up to the power and energy in the room that night.
