Music Interview: LEVI on his creative tastes, musical influences & new single "HEAVY"

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hi I’m LEVI, an upcoming Artist from Auckland New Zealand.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I grew up around music and was brought up around some amazing musicians so music has always been a part of me. HIPHOP in particular won me over 2 years ago when XXXTentacion died and I saw the impact he made to millions of people around the world through his music. I realised that I wanted to do the same.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

‘HEAVY’ is my debut single and is a Drill record. I wanted to enter the Hiphop game with something that goes hard and this track goes hard! The idea is that the lyrics in the beginning of the song will call out an audience that’s familiar to that sound and I can get them to jump on the LEVI bandwagon for the long run.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I just tell the truth. I don’t want to be a fake rapper. I want to put my real life truth into a record. My style is hiphop/trap/drill but I’ll always put a taste of RnB into everything I do.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

I play the guitar, bass and drums. The drums are my favourite. When you hear how hard the beat hits in my music, then you’ll realise that I love a good beat and my ear is mostly attracted to a good beat before anything.

Who are your biggest musical inﬂuences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My hiphop inﬂuences are Drake, XXXTentacion, Trippier Redd, Da Baby, Ty Dollar Sign and Pop Smoke.

My musical inﬂuence is my dad.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I’m 26 and have a lot more years to ﬁgure out how to balance anything in my life 🙂
