Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?
My name is Aurelien David, I am a French recording artist, pianist and singer based in Germany, France and Israel.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I have always played music, all my life, I was trained as a classical pianist and singer. I always wanted to do a music project that is very personal.
Since I travel a lot for business all over the world, I realized that there ARE no boundaries. All should be ONE. We should be free and have no limits. – that is the idea behind my music.
Tell us about your new music album? And what’s the story behind it?
The basis of my new album Adon Olam are ancient Hebrew melodies and lyrics that are usually played during traditional Jewish festivities. I have reinterpreted these traditional songs for the piano. And sing the original lyrics, but in a modern way as pop ballade, and with a French accent… The result is a mixture between poetry, prayer and classical pop music.
What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?
I love the timeless motives, melodies and deep feelings Hebrew music expresses, I believe it comes from the soul and touches something universal.
Even if some listener don’t understand the lyrics. Music can do that. Transcend everything. It could be that some people could find this a bit shocking or inappropriate – transforming Hebrew religious songs into popular culture, but I don’t mind.
I want to radically break down all boundaries between religions, music styles, languages, the old and the new.
I decided to follow my heart, be brave, and try to make something unique. I hope it will resonate with many people, maybe even build bridges.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes, of course the piano, I own on a Steinway concert grand from 1898, a special edition. There are only handful of them in the world today. I have a very special relationship to this instrument.
How is your creative process when recording music? And what makes a good recording session?
I love the process of recording music, I believe it involves a lot of creativity, hard work and discipline, the difficult part as a perfectionist is to let go, this is why it is very important to be surrounded by great people and to trust them.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Follow your dreams and bring them to reality, it is never too early, never too late to do what you are aspiring for.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or tours?
My first song from the album was release last week. I am working on further releases for this album for the next weeks and on a new project for this autumn. So, touring and concert maybe next year, let’s see.
