Music Review: Red Brick Road

What’s cooler than starting off your music video playing guitar in the middle of a run down building, with discrete graffiti all over it, and right under the sun’s glow? It may just be the appropriate season for singing outdoors in the wild, but it’s also the right time for discovering new music! With that said, Red Brick Road, an American, Alternative Rock trio from Detroit, Michigan released a slick music video for their single, “Bobby Joe”, and it’s an absolute trip. Made up of brothers, Jake and Tate McCloskey, and Chris Males (formerly of Phoenix Rising), the band leave their hearts on their sleeves with this record’s melancholic lyrics and signature guitar shredding.

Although originally just a pass-time for the group, the trio had been making music, and by early 2019 it was agreed upon that the three would merge into a band. They dove right into the studio to release their first debut single “Bobby Joe”, a song that you might hear on a rocking 90s dance floor. The music video itself is a digital daze with some sought of warm-toned, retro filter layered on top. You are taken through multiple scenes in an abandoned building where the band get to play their instruments and occasionally switch back and forth to a tv-station themed background that takes the viewer on trippy afterimages. It becomes semi-ironic, but also suits the general aesthetic which is fun and cool. With these goals in mind, it can safely be said that Red Brick Road and the director went above and beyond.

From a visual perspective, this video is absolutely stunning, going perfectly hand-in-hand with the band’s bold persona. The tempo of the song is best accompanied by the steely guitar riffs that magically slide off of the syllables of the lyrics. On top of that, the band’s finely crafted songwriting adds a seasoned appeal that only elevates them higher. The first listen will have you ready to sing along the second time around, but “Bobby Joe” was just a taste of the eclectic sounds they’re stirring up, of which they are preparing to release their album.
