EP Review: Dane – A Conduit of Light

Dane - A Conduit of Light Cover Art

Dane’s aim is to simply make some space to raise his own voice to reach soaring heights and capture surreal moments with his talent. His current EP, A Conduit of Light stands tall, offering a sizeable amount of cordial tunes that would impress any listener who stumbles upon them. All of these records command attention, becoming a collection of smashing beats blended well with irresistible vocals.

With one of a kind records like “On & On”, Dane becomes a student of the culture. His storytelling abilities and technical skill combine to form a bottomless trove of a lyrical jewels. Dane steps up to the plate with his EP as he builds up a hybrid skill of rap and singing. In my mind he’s like, “…OK, I have this awesome beat, a ton of metaphors, and a fluid rhyming style; now how do I take it up another level?”

The versatile artist is full of surprises as he firmly establishes himself as one of the most avant-garde in R&B, and the best among his peers when it comes to delivering that soulful edge. On his song “You Special”, Dane defines his outwardness through a weird, wild, and wholly self-referential Dancehall beat. A Conduit of Light could as well be recognized as one of the best albums I’ve heard this year. Dane delivers a high-spirited concept that is genuine and generously admirable.

On his song “L2J”, Dane maintains his style-war futurism and crowd-pleasing showmanship to R&B’s expanding audiences. The smooth and quiet R&B track lingers in your mind with little mysterious sounds, as the artist converses in a sultry coded language meant to distance himself from his lover.

Dane creates music with an abiding confidence in himself and an intense devotion to the craft. The artist can huddle to the finish line at his own pace, fall down and get back up without hesitation, and being unfazed by the situation, will still deliver a thrilling performance and win big.
