Music Interview: Savi Kaboo on her creative tastes, musical influences & new music

Savi Kaboo-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

I’m Savi Kaboo and I’m an Austrian based singer, songwriter, and producer with an American-Jordanian background. Right now I am studying audio design at university in Vienna, and in my free time I am writing, recording, and producing music.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I come from a long line of creative people, musicians, painters, and writers. My grandparents were artists, writers and musicians, and my dad was a drummer and singer in a band that I used to sometimes sing with for fun. From the age of 7 I learned to play the piano, but it didn’t stick, so in my early teens I taught myself the guitar and ukulele because I wanted to create music that would accompany my lyrics. After highschool I actually decided to pursue a college degree as a painter, but it wasn’t until two years into the course when I realized that I actually wanted to focus mainly on song-writing and using my voice to express my art. When I recorded ‘Ring Ring’ and ‘Legalize’ I knew that music was my biggest passion, and that I had to pursue it. Today, for me writing songs is the main way of dealing with my feelings, and I like to make the cover art for my music.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

My newest song is coming out on the 28th of November. I wrote it after the recent terrorist attack that happened in Vienna. The times are hard during this pandemic and there has been a surge in covid cases, so I decided that I wanted to use my music to bring hope and light to the people.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

I think that what makes my music unique is that I am not trying to imitate anyone, I’m just doing what feels good to me and not trying to fit into any boxes.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

The ukulele is my favorite instrument to play.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Eminem and Bob Marley have been the greatest influences throughout my music career.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

My proudest moment so far was when I performed as one of the main acts at the 2Hot4Stage Festival in Belgrade, Serbia this February.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

I find it easy to balance music with my other activities as it is my primary focus. I feel like I really need to do music and I can’t live without it.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Just do it. Stay true to yourself. Don’t give in to what others want you to do.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for supporting me, you are the best.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Other than Vienna there is another single coming out on the 20th of December. I’m also working on various music projects with different producers, and also some music videos.
