Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Simon Astley, and I am from Tasmania, Australia.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

My mum was a Music Teacher before she retired, and she got me my start in music. I learnt piano and Saxophone from an early age, and my love for Singing and Songwriting came in my teenage years.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

My new single “Waiting at the Door” is a song about love. Waiting for that special person who you have always known is your soul mate, your one true love, but it’s taken them that little longer to realize.
They have been living their whole life looking for that special someone, whilst you have been right there under their nose that whole time. You have been in the background, waiting, and hoping that one day they would be yours. Finally you have your chance.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

My music is eclectic. I love writing piano ballads, and my main focus is getting a very strong chorus that I can build the song around. I like to work backwards starting with the chorus, and then writing the intro and the first verse later on once I have the strongest part finished.

Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My mum has always been my big influence, starting my music passion off from an early age. The Beatles, Ben Fold Five, The Whitlams, & Monique Brumby have been a big part of my love for music. Love their music.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Having my song ‘London’ played as part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

How do you balance your music with other obligations family, friends or work?

Pretty easily. I make sure I spend quality time with my family and friends. Music is a important to me, but my family and friends are most important.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Keep going and don’t stop. Never give up on your dreams. Run your own race.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I hope my music is making you feel happy.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Just keep writing and releasing music for you all. I have lots of music ready to bring out. Exciting times ahead!
