Music Interview: Lunar Riptide on their musical journey and being inspired by Walk The Moon & Panic! At the Disco

Lunar Riptide-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself?

Deric: My name is Deric Eaton and I play guitar in Lunar Riptide

Cole: My name is Cole LaBrake and I sing in Lunar Riptide

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Deric: I got into music super young, It’s just something I’ve always been surrounded by. I guess ive just known music was my path because its all ive been doing for such a long time and I have such a deep love for it.

Cole: When I was 7 I started to play the saxophone in school band, from there, I joined choirs and did musical theatre. I really didn’t realize that I wanted to sing with a band until I met Deric in 2015, and we formed Lunar Riptide.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

Cole: Our new music is way different than any of our old unreleased stuff. I think it mainly has to do with age, we have really grown together as a band and personally that it just changes the way we write songs. We should have some new tracks out super soon, that sound pretty different from one another.

What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?

Deric: I would say that our music is a massive mixture of all our different influences and musical backgrounds, for example Riley (our other guitarist) and I cut our teeth in the Post-Hardcore/Metal Scene and Cole our singer was a musical theater vocalist. It would be hard to pin a genre but it’s refreshing to not have boundaries on the songs we write.

Do you play any instruments? And why do you love it?

Deric: I play a bunch of instruments, at some points in our history as a band ive played bass, guitar, and drums. I love it because it’s such a great outlet for emotional stress and has played a key factor in keeping me sane.

How is your creative process when recording music? And what makes a good recording session?

Cole: Not to be cheesy but it’s totally all about vibe and being on the same page with your bandmates. You want the studio to feel like an escape from reality and not like a 9 to 5 job.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Deric: For me my proudest moment would be about 2 years ago, my little brother got to come watch me play at Chain Reaction in Anaheim and see me do what I love, definitely a moment I will never forget.

Cole: My best moment in my musical career is honestly the first time I performed with Deric, we played “The Wanderer” by Dion at our high school choir concert, and I just had one of the best times of my life on stage.

How do you balance your music with other obligations?

Deric: It’s tough that’s for sure, anyone in the industry will tell you that. It’s all about finding and making a schedule that works for you. I just try to practice my craft any chance I get, before/after work and even during all i think about are my parts or how I can improve my setup. Thankfully everyone around me is super supportive and try to help me when they can, I really couldn’t do this without those people.

Cole: Balancing music between work, school, and friends/family is honestly tough, I just try to find any time I can to sit down at the piano and write, or even just play some songs I really like.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Deric: Thanks for checking us out and lending us your time, to anyone listening; you’re genuinely making my dreams come true so thank you!

Cole: You guys are the greatest, I hope you like what we have cooking for you

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or tours?

Deric and Cole: More Music, More Shows, Maybe a Tour???? We have promised new tunes for a long time and we are excited to finally have songs we feel confident in and we will be dropping them before you know it.
